How We Help
OHS has three main programs to support our local animals and local people in our communities.
Our Rescue Program serves local lost, abandoned, and feral animals by capturing them and ensuring they receive all necessary medical attention needed.
Our Pet Assistance Program serves our local animals and local people who face income barriers to ensure their pets receive basic medical attention needed. Much of the support we provide is for low income spay and neuter services.
Our Foster and Adoption Programs serve our local animals to ensure they receive a safe, loving new home when ready!
Who We Are and What We Do
We are local people helping local animals.
We are a passionate, dedicated team of volunteers working together to save lives and end the suffering of local animals in our community.
Established in 1996, OHS has been rescuing animals and providing spay and neuter services to help with pet overpopulation.
Since inception, OHS has spayed or neutered more than 27,000 animals and last year we helped more than 1,500 local animals in need.

10-year-old female cat
Meet Miss Rita, a loving, loyal companion ready to brighten your world. Rita arrived with a “lion cut” due to matting, but her beautiful coat is growing back soft and silky.
This sweet girl absolutely adores people. She’ll hop up to make biscuits, settle in for snuggles, and keep close company wherever you are. If the sun is shining, you'll find her stretched out in the warm glow (from behind the glass, of course!), enjoying life’s simple comforts.
Rita watches you leave, waits patiently, and warmly greets you the moment you return. She is truly a heart-cat - affectionate, attentive, and ready to be someone’s shadow and best friend.
Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and litter trained.

2-year-old female American Bulldog
Sweet, strong, and gentle at heart, Cali is a beautiful bulldog girl looking for her forever home. Cali was found abandoned and tied to a park bench, an experience that understandably left her feeling anxious and unsure of the world.
After entering rescue, Cali spent time in a loving foster home but needed a more structured environment to truly settle. That’s when our amazing rescue partners at Bark N Fly Boarding Kennels stepped in. With their experience and patience, Cali has been able to decompress, build trust, and continue learning how to feel safe and confident. Huge thanks to Bark N Fly for all their support.
Cali will do best with an experienced owner who understands her breed and can provide calm, confident guidance. While she enjoys other dogs, Cali would prefer to be the only dog in the home so she can be the centre of attention. In the right home, she will be a loyal, affectionate companion.
Cali is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Vet cost recovery: $300. For questions or to arrange a meet-and-greet, please contact Tracy at 250-469-3041.

3 month old Male Kitten
Clay is one of the shy four kittens - check out his moustache! He is the most outgoing of the group and will come running when you enter the room, wrap around your feet and then immediately flip with his belly up. He’s super soft and a little lazy.
Clay has been exposed to younger kids, and is okay with them as long as they are calm. He would do best in a quieter home, and would love to be adopted with one of his brothers. He has not been exposed to other animals but would probably be fine with a lot of patience and a slow introduction.
Clay is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and has had his first vaccinations. His vet recovery cost to adopt is $250. For more information please text Sarah in Kelowna at 250-215-1750.

11 years young Coon/Lab X senior dogs
Sammi and Ruby are 11-year-old sister pups hoping to find a loving home where they can enjoy their golden years together. These sweet girls are still very active and thrive on love and attention. They have no experience living with children and are known to chase cats, so a calm, dog savvy home would be best. A securely fenced yard is a must, giving them space to chase a ball and enjoy the outdoors, followed by what they love most, gentle pets and companionship at the end of the day.
Both are spayed, up-to date on vaccines, dewormer, and microchipped. Their vet recovery fee to adopt has been sponsored to find them the right home. They are located in the Vernon area but can move within the Okanagan. Please call Shannon at 778-214-7489 for more information!

10-year-old female cat
Abbie is a beautiful black and white girl with the softest heart. Her sweet disposition and love of cuddling make her a truly special companion. She’ll purr softly in your ear, watch over you at night, and follow you from room to room just to be near her person.

She has recently developed thyroid issues and will need daily medication to keep her feeling her best, the medication is inexpensive and easy to administer, and Abbie takes it well. She is absolutely worth the extra care.

5-year-old female cat
Moxie is simply unforgettable. She is one of the most loving, devoted companions you will ever meet. This sweet girl wants to be as close to her person as physically possible — whether that means curling up under your chin, snuggling into your neck, or even sleeping on your face just to stay connected. She has even been known to steal a shirt and carry it to her bed to use as her personal “blankey,” just to feel near you when you’re not right beside her.
Moxie thrives on affection and does wonderfully with children. She previously lived with a dog and another cat and would do well with gentle, friendly animals given a slow and thoughtful introduction. She would also be perfectly happy being the only devoted pet, soaking up all the love and attention for herself.
Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and litter box trained.
Vet cost recovery: $200.
