How We Help
OHS has three main programs to support our local animals and local people in our communities.
Our Rescue Program serves local lost, abandoned, and feral animals by capturing them and ensuring they receive all necessary medical attention needed.
Our Pet Assistance Program serves our local animals and local people who face income barriers to ensure their pets receive basic medical attention needed. Much of the support we provide is for low income spay and neuter services.
Our Foster and Adoption Programs serve our local animals to ensure they receive a safe, loving new home when ready!
Who We Are and What We Do
We are local people helping local animals.
We are a passionate, dedicated team of volunteers working together to save lives and end the suffering of local animals in our community.
Established in 1996, OHS has been rescuing animals and providing spay and neuter services to help with pet overpopulation.
Since inception, OHS has spayed or neutered more than 27,000 animals and last year we helped more than 1,500 local animals in need.

5 year old female cat
Meet Luna, a gorgeous and affectionate girl looking for a patient, loving home! While she may be a little shy at first, Luna just needs a quiet space and some time to feel safe. Once she trusts you, she’ll reward you with sweet head boops, gentle cuddles, and the joy of feeling her soft, fluffy coat beneath your fingertips.
Luna is independent and knows when she needs her alone time, often curling up for cozy naps under blankets or in her cat bed (which she’d love to bring with her!). She also enjoys a good scratch—so her scratching post is coming along too!
Her ideal home would be calm and dog-free, with an experienced cat lover who understands her sassy but lovable personality. She may be OK with a laid-back feline companion, but she’d be happiest as the queen of her castle. While she’s not a fan of being picked up, she has perfect litter box manners and plenty of love to give to the right person.
If you have a kind heart and a quiet home, Luna is ready to be your loyal and loving companion! Vet cost recovery to adopt is $150. Please contact Rain in West Kelowna to inquire: 778-581-3665

9 month old female Heeler x puppy
Meet Lizzy! A beautiful spayed black Shepherd/Heeler mix.
Unfortunately, she has faced some challenges and will need a confident, experienced owner who can provide the guidance she needs. Lizzy can be anxious and sometimes communicates with her mouth, so she requires firm boundaries to understand she is not the alpha.
She is very smart, eager to please, and highly food-motivated, which makes training easier. Lizzy loves other dogs, greets nicely on a leash, and plays well with others.
A Halti is recommended for walks, as she is young, strong, and likes to decide the direction.
Full of love and energy, Lizzy has the potential to be an amazing companion!
Her vet recovery cost to adopt is $300.
If you have any questions or would like to meet Lizzy, please contact Tracy at 250-469-3041.

2-Year-Old Female American Bulldog
London is a stunning and energetic American Bulldog with a heart full of love and a deep desire to make her people happy. She’s intelligent, obedient, and always eager to please.
This sweet girl is fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She enjoys the company of other dogs when properly introduced and absolutely loves a good game of tug-of-war! However, London would thrive best in a home without cats.
She’s still working on her leash manners—her enthusiasm sometimes gets the best of her—but she’s making great progress. One of her favorite things? Car rides! She’ll happily be your co-pilot on any adventure.
With her gentle and affectionate nature, London will quickly steal your heart.

14 year old female senior dog
Meet Betsy! A sweet and affectionate Yorkie-Shih tzu lady who will quickly become your best friend. She’s always the first to greet you at the door with a happy smile and a wagging tail, though she prefers to have her human close by for company.
Don’t let the fact that Betsy has three legs fool you—she’s still a little adventurer! She enjoys short, leisurely walks to explore and soak in the fresh air. Afterward, you’ll find her curled up in a cozy bed or basking in a sunny spot for the rest of the day.
Betsy is wonderful with other dogs and has experience living with both cats and children. She’s the most loving and loyal girl, and she truly deserves a warm and caring home in her golden years.
Recently, Betsy needed some dental care and had 21 teeth removed. Vet recovery cost to adopt Betsy is $200.
If you have any questions or would like to meet Betsy, please contact Tracy at 250-469-3041.

2 year old female Pitbull terrier x dog
Luna is Looking for Her Forever Home!
Luna is a sweet cuddle bug who loves being close to her humans—so much so that she thinks her 60lb body fits perfectly in your lap! She is smart and eager to learn but would do best with a family experienced with her breed.
Luna came to OHS very timid after being unclaimed at animal control. Luckily, she was placed with an amazing foster family who helped her build trust and feel the love she deserves. She gets along well with the other dog in her foster home but has a prey drive, so a cat-free home would be best. Luna is a medium-energy girl who loves chasing balls and squeaky toys. She’s learning leash manners and how to settle, but she’ll need continued training.
If you have any questions or think Luna might be the perfect fit, please contact Tracy at 250-469-3041. Her vet recovery cost to adopt is $300.
Let’s find Luna the loving home she deserves!
